I have downloads from audiogalaxy and they send them as.mp3 so I have changed them to .avi but I get bad sound an no video. Real audio says that the Mpg4 is not decoded. what does that mean and can I fix it. It was sent to me as a zip and I have unzipped it and i can't play still. I also tried TMPGEnc and it does not recognize the avi files says they are unsupported files.Comment

it doesn't mean that an MP3 is a video!
if TMPGENC does not open avi files, makes sure u install the codecs and then goto options > environment settings > VFAPI plugin and increase the avi vfw and the avi opendml priorities to a higher level. TMPGENC will not open any AVI files.
MP3 is NOT video, does not mean that when u change an MP3 into an avi extension that video magically appears!
The quality could be bad from the person who ripped the audio or whatever.

though mp3 is either mpeg1 or mpeg2
it is ONLY: MPEG (1) Layer-3

let me get this straight: you downloaded an avi file that had a .mp3 extension (but it IS an avi, not an mp3 right?) and now you want it to be recognized as an avi?
This might not be a solution for you, but there's a program called wrapster that can make files look like mp3s so that they can be shared on mp3 only filesharing clients. To extract wrapster-ed files, you need to get a program called unwrapper, available from the same website(www.unwrapper.com).
As I said, it might not solve your problem, but give it a try.Comment
