    PAL to NTSC?

I was recently given an DVD containing family videos from my relatives in Italy but its in the PAL format. It is region free and the DVD copies fine, but I can't view it. Is there any easy to use software program I can put the DVD through in order to convert it from PAL to NTSC?

Easiest way is actually to buy a player that is capable of viewing multi framerate. Failing that, if you have it, Procoder 2 works without fail.

Otherwise, you could use an AVISynth script with another encoder, say HC015 (free).

    Also, see here and here.

You should only use genuine Verbatim or Taiyo Yuden media. Many thanks to www.pcx.com.au for their supply and great service.

Thanks. I just thought of something. I already have Nero Ultra Edition. What if I transcode the files using it and save them as an NTSC video? Do you think that would work?

I tested nero vision a while back and went from ntsc to pal, so it should work

NTSC to PAL is easier than PAL to NTSC. I doubt whether Nero will handle it properly. Procoder 2(as Blu said) is his best chance.

you guys have some pretty pricey options?

            new test!
took a high quality 20 minute avi, encoded to pal dvd format with convertx
            verified with mediainfo
opened with vision(3.x) encoded vob's to ntsc
little slow, understandably, but for someone that already has vision it beats paying 3-500$ for procoder 2 or 3

finished ntsc played fine, couldn't tell any difference in any of the steps

How good is the 'patch' method? Have any of you tried it? If it is successful then there will be absolutely NO change in video/audio quality, speed etc.
BTW Chewy, what were the specs of the original avi that you encoded to PAL DVD?
