.avi converted to DVD, choppy sound on PS3

I have used ConvertXtoDVD for many months to convert avi files to play on my standalone. Results have been excellent.

I have now ditched the stand alone in favour of a PS3, but some of the sound of my converted discs is choppy.

According to GSpot the original avi files have audio AC3 files that cause the problem, MPEG1 Layer 3 seem to convert and play ok.

I have spent all day trying to read articles and understand but I think I have confused myself.

Is their anything I can do to prevent the problem? Do I need to convert the sound on the avi first and if so is their a guide to help. Please point me in the right direction.

I've never had any problems with ConvertX handling avi's with AC3 files...my question is why would you want to add the wear and tear to a PS3 that costs a pretty penny over a $30 DVD player from wally world? What brand discs are you using? Is the video OK?

Personal choice I guess in answer to your question. Its bed room size and space that dictates only using the one player.

Could it be to do with VBR instead of CBR or could I be trying to put to much on one disc.

Forgot to say all copies done with ConvertX work fine on my other wally world machines.

Sounds like the PS3 isn't a very good DVD player then to me...shouldn't have anything to do with the programs you or format you are working with/from.

Hi there. I just recently purchased a ps3 and it is doing the exact same thing. Did anyone ever find out a solution to this?

            Hi Sledge,

Is it only the osund is choppy or the video is jittery also!?!?

Anyway here are multiple solutions ...

            1) for Jittery AVI ... Unpack the BitStream. Use AviDemux to save teh file Unpacked .. I prefer unpcaked and XviD.

            2) I think that bwfc (the OP of this Thread) failed to look at under GSpot program is if his/hers AVI file was compiled with GMC & QPL.

If so, then that is the problem ... you will have video & audio glitches or skippage. You have to re-encode that AVI file and not just SAVE it. I can't quite remember what program I used ... if I am not mistaken I uses AviDemux to reencode it. Again used XviD & MP3.

Post back if this was the issue ... if not will try something else.

            G!
