How do I burn a DVD if it is protected? Can I?

Hello, i was wondering about something. I rented Hairspray from Netflix and i want to make a copy of it myself without having to buy it. But when i tired to do that just now, it wouldnt let me. I think it might be protected and i dont know if i should not burn it or what will happen it i do uncode it or something. I dont want to get in trouble but i would like to know .

As well, copying rented DVDs is illegal in most parts of the world. We can not support that.
