Avi plays in Mediaplayer but not .......

I have downloaded an avi-file (Harry Potter)
This file is playing well in the Windows Mediaplayer from WinXP, but I like to use it with BSplayer, because then I can add a subtitle, BUT it wont play because of the message: "Unknow file format"
I have installed al kind of codecs like: 3.11 alpha ; 4.12, 5.0.2, smr, tsunami, nimo but none of them let me play the avi in BSplayer.
Is there an solution for my problem

use the latest bs version as older version might fail with divx5 playback

are you sure this is what NANDUB said?

well it does not really look like an avi file, in particular when taking the the resolution into account!

rather looks like an mpeg1/vcd format judged by the res.

                  Sure

Sorry mate but I'am sure, because it's a print screen, now I've made a print-screen from the second avi file
I can load the file in nandub and also play it

well if you have TSUNAMI installed .....

did you try wmp6.4 for playback (though bs player should work fins and does so for me)?

what about de-installing filters and then reinstalling one pack + divx5pro e.g.?

                      Will give it a try

I use WMP 8 (standard from XP) works fine, I have don a little test with nandub just save the file again, after some minutes when I break this save, then I can view it in BSplayer (only problem I have is that the file is getting bigger and that I don't know how to set up the save option so that the file almost remains the same size)

The divx5 bsplayer and tsunami, i will install them on an other XP partition, on my PC, but will giv a answer tomorrow, will take to long for now, have to get up early

in nandub you'll have to use DIRECT stream for both: audio AND video

                          Nope

Tried it on my extra XP partition, with only divx 5 and tsunami, didn't work.

Now I have heard that when I use nandub and want to save the avi, I first have to extract the audio and the recompress it again, is this true?
And the direct stream for video and audio didn't workt eighter bacause of an cracked codec or something like that.

what is it you want to achieve in nandub?

in case you want to re-encode/compress audio and or/video stream, direct stream of course is not the proper usage/advice

                              achieve

If I view the avi in nandub, i can see the movie. so I tried to save this file but from 745Mb it bocomes about 1Gb, that of course to big for a CD-rom (and I don't want to waste space of burning 1.5 CD), thats wat I want to achieve if possible
