DVD/CD ROM Drive problem

My pc has a LITE-ON DVDRW SOHW-1673S drive and until a few days ago has been working perfectly well.Now it won't read any type of disc,and doesn't even show when there is a disc in the drive.

Device Manager tells me the device is working properly,and when I trouble shoot the device I can't seem to find any reason why it isn't working.

I've scanned my computer with Driver Detective but this shows the device driver is up to date.

Can anyone suggest what the problem might be?

1. clean the drive
and/or
2. remove it from device manager and reboot and let windows redetect
and/or
3. try another drive, that one is quite old and due to die by now anyway
