    Nandub/ Virtualdub

Good day everyone. I'm trying to rip a dvd and to convert it into a divx file for the first time.

    I failed here:

I used the VFAPI proggie to create the avi-file, I had also ripped the audio stream into a mp3 file.

Now I wanted to load the avi into Nandub or Virtualdub but I got this error message:

    -------------------------------------------------------------------------
Couldn't locate decompressor for format "vifp" (unknown)

Virtualdub/Nandub requires a Video for Windows (VFW) compatible codec to decompress video.
DirectShow codecs, such as those used by Windows Media Player, are not suitable.
    -------------------------------------------------------------------------

Someone told me that I would have to install a codec which follows with the proggies but I didn't find any.

I'm an absolute newbie and don't know what to do, I hope someone experienced with this stuff could help me. Either you reply to this message or send me an email to anders@hingis.de

    Thanks a lot!!!

If you downloaded the vfapi-codec you need to install it. There should be directory named "codec" with a file named "vifpset.bat". Execute it and it should work.
    don't trust in guides

I'm pretty new as well, but for what its worth, in my experience your first few times you should probably use something where you dont have to recombine the audio with the video. I had pretty bad sync problems. Maybe you will have better luck. My first time out though I used Clad DVD to rip, then FlaskMpeg to encode, and that was it. It gave me a good beginners introduction without bein too difficult. My next time I may try to split the audio fro mthe video and play with it, but not for now. Nothing is worse then spending all that time setting it up, then waiting for it to encode, to find out its screwed up....
