convert from avi to mpeg

anyone tell me how to convert from avi to mpeg to be able to burn onto cd to play on my dvd/vcd player

TMPGEnc or Nero will do it. The latter provides easy-to-use wizard and is simple to use, but does not provide more advanced features that the former offers.

[Mac Sidewinder]

You can also use dvd2svcd. It accepts avi input and allows you to choose between tmpge or cce as the encoder. Output either as a vcd or svcd. You can find it at www.doom9.org. Good luck.
