Windows locks up when openning Avi file

Windows locks up when openning Avi file, it doesn't matter what player it is (media player, BSPlayer, DivxPlayer,etc) , Crtl-Alt-Del don't do anything, only reset & reboot.
I have deleted all the codecs & reinstalled them(used nino pack).
I'm running Win2kPro Sp2 on P3 700 dual, 768 mb ram.

Is this happening with one particular file, or one particular group of files?

Is this a file that you created or did you download it?

Have you previously been able to play similar files?

It doesn't matter if it a divx avi or a windows avi, I tried a few avi's same result(lock-up). It does it with mpg/mpeg's as well.

Reinstall your graphics card driver and DirectX. If you are using a Via-based motherboard, install the latest Via 4-in1 driver as well.
