Hi, I'm new to these forums and I got a simple question. I am using Nero Recode 2 to backup my dvds and I was wondering if it would be better to just burn then main movie onto the dvd or burn it with all the extras and stuff? It says if I burn just the main movie, the video quality would be better. And if I burn it with the extras, the video quality would be at around 60-70%. Would I see a major difference in video quality if I burn the dvd with all the extras oppose to burning it without? Thanks a lot in advance.
Better to burn just the main movie, or with all the extras?

If you want the best video quality and don't care about the extras burn the movie only. If you keep the extras and compress at 60-70% only you can be the judge if the quality is acceptable. IMO I usually don't see any difference. -
i'm not expert but, i don't think one can argue with the little formula;
the less compression the better the quality. (just my two cents). i'm a main movie only guy.Comment

yes UncasMS you are right, i'm just don't like to settle for "decent"quality, specially having a bigscreem tv. so i sacrifice the menus and all the other stuff(which i do like) in order to get the best quality possible. i use rebuilder in main movie only mode.Comment

If you really want the extras you can save space by clippingout extra languages and extra audio such as: 5.1 and 2 channel, if you have a nice surround sound system your going to want to keep the 5.1 you do not need both you can leave out the 2 CH to help save some space while burning the extras if you do not have surround sound system and watching them off TV sound you may want to clip out the 5.1 (Larger file and no need if you do not have 5 speaker system). I like to burn just the movies but my son is 10 and he likes the extras on the Disney DVD's. I have an HD big screen so I like the higher quality, but with most animated moves there isnt much difference, so that would be up to you what have and like the most or if the movies are for kids or you.Comment

In a year or so, we'll all be burning the whole lot on DL disks, anyway.

It was meant as a pun for the way the mpaa and riaa are prosecuting us. ie the new law in sweden, the best decrypting program being ordered to decease etc etcComment

Ahhh - we are metaphorically burning in hell then.
Still, I believe new technolgoy springs up to fill the void. How many new wannabe rippers have we seen in the last 3 weeks? Lots! You never know, one might actually do the trick.

I normally use MenuShrink on the menus and blank out all unwanted extras, promos, trailers etc.,get rid of unneeded languages and sound also. But as photo angel2004 mentioned the kid's like all the extra stuff on the DVD, so for my grandson Lil Danny I keep most of 'em.Not registered Go here and click register to join the Digital Digest Forums
