    Hi Chewy,

When I recode a segment from a DVD to mp4 format on my hard drive using Recode, the resulting volume seems much lower than it did on the original DVD. I've read elsewhere that this is a known problem with Recode. There is a Registry "fix" that doesn't seem to do anything. I've also heard of other workarounds like demuxing the audio, pumping it up and remuxing, but I haven't tried that yet. It would be great if the Recode software had a feature to control the volume levels, like they do in some audio rippers.

By the way Chewy, you wrote that "Nero7, like almost all early versions of Nero, is buggy". Am I to understand that they came out with a full-revision version of the program which contains almost nothing that wasn't contained in the previous version, and it works worse than the prior version? "Buggy" indeed. I'm not saying that this doesn't happen in the software world, but that doesn't take the "ripoff" taint out of it. The company insists that you communicate with them only via email. They then don't respond to your emails. No workarounds...no solutions...no patches...just "uninstall please, and thanks for the money". And the final indignity is that the uninstall program doesn't even work properly, so in order to downgrade to the previous version you have to run a special utility which by the way also doesn't work so well? Tell me Chewy, am I exaggerating? I'm sure I'm not the first person to say these things. I'm just sorry that I happened upon this forum before wasting $55 hoping that things got straightened out. Am I PO'd? Yeah, a bit.

Give them time and nero 7 will be OK, just not yet! You are not exaggerating.
You pay Ahead to beta test their software. Why they didn't just keep
        going with nero 6.6xxx, I don't know, it's a good product.

Slightly off-topic (I know, I apologize), but not really, as you'll see. I just discovered another problem. I have two CD drives, one a CD burner (and DVD reader) and one just a CD reader. Once I open the tray for the CD reader, it will not stay closed...whether there is a CD in it or not. While the PC boots up it opens and closes normally, but the minute Windows is loaded, the problem comes back. AND, when I uninstalled Nero (now Nero6 since Nero7 is DOA)...the problem went away. Anyone familiar with this one? Thanks again to Nero, I now have no burning program installed. And I'm only out about $125. Did I get off cheap?

              Hi Chewy,

Clean tools are not very good, I've run them before. I have to go in and manually mop up.

              Personal messages now accepted.

Beg to differ, Chewy. The Registry was loaded with stuff, AFTER the cleantools. I'm sure I didn't get it all, but I got all the entries with "Ahead" and "Nero". I have never seen a cleantool that ran as fast as Nero...I knew it couldn't get everything...

now reinstall nero 6 package 1 and 2, stay away from smart start and incd
and attach a full nero infotool report, let's find the conflicts
and then lets's look at an everest overclock report and see what's up with your workstation

I know the clean tools are crud, but short of a clean install they are all we have to go with.

I doubt the sound feature works perfectly, but who knows?

You might want to consider 6.6.0.18 as the newest update for Nero 6 has issues with DVD Shrink...

                                What about the "InCD.exe" issue?
