    Nero Recode Error

Recently I have been having problems using Nero Recode. I get the following error messege as soon as Recode starts to encode....

failed to read from the file %s.

Anyone seen this before? Any solutions?

I am using Nero 6.6, along with Anydvdv 5.9.1

    Thanks for your help,

      Thanks for the welcome.

Actually it does it with any and all movies.

I first noticed it with after updating to Nero 7, so I uninstalled 7 and went back to 6.6. However, I still get the same error.

      Puzzeled.

Here is the log if it helps.

If you are certain that Nero 7 has caused the problem. You need Nero CleanTools to uninstall Nero 6 or 7 since windows Add and Remove can't uninstall Nero completely. Here is what I should do if I were you:

1- Uninstall Nero 6 with Nero 6 CleanTool

2- Since uninstalling Nero 7 with Add and Remove, Nero 7's junks are still in the PC and make trouble. IMHO, to get rid of them, I just have to reinstall Nero 7 and uninstall it again with Nero 7 CleanTool

3- Download and install Nero 6.6.0.18 from the link below

Well, after uninstalling, using the clean tools, and reinstalling several time, I am still getting the same error...
failed to read from the file %s.
I am currently using the latest Nero 7.0.8.2, Recode 2.2.8.5, and AnyDvd 5.9.4.1, but it is happening with any version and any movie.

Just really perplexed, as Nero has worked flawlessly until this error started some 3-4 weeks ago.

          Here is the error log...

            Get exactly same problem

Completly rebuilt clean version XP home SP2
            Norton Internet Security 2006
            Nero7 clean install

Have homemade DVD-R made with Panasonic DVD.

Nero7 plays DVD no problems, Realplayer plays it OK and so does Media player.

Trying to copy the DVD with Nero Recode get the message:

            failed to open file %s.

failed to open file %s. IS I BELIEVE THE ERROR MESSAGE YOU GET WHEN THE DECRYPTION HAS NOT BEEN DEALT WITH TRY DOWNLOADING DVD REGION+CSS FREE FROM THE FOLLOWING SITE www.dvdidle.com IT WORKS IN THE SAME WAY AS ANYDVD IF IT WORKS THEN I WOULD SAY YOU HAVE A PROBLEM WITH YOUR ANYDVD PROGRAM

Why don't you try DVD Shrink and see if you still get a failure to open error.
IMHO I like Shrink better than Recode, and they're virtually the same program.
Also, are you sure that AnyDVD is running? You can go under 'settings', then under the 'program' tab, check 'show information window for new media',
This will pop up a message window each time you pop in a DVD to tell you that it has been seen and that it has been decrypted.

                          Easy Solution To Read problem

I was having the same problem using Nero Recode. The solution is to first burn the DVD Video to your hard drive using analysis. Once that is finished then using the Burning Rom and drag and drop the New video from your hard drive onto a blank DVD. I hope this helps.

[quote=sfin54]Recently I have been having problems using Nero Recode. I get the following error messege as soon as Recode starts to encode....

failed to read from the file %s.

The above error message i believe to be because the disc you are trying to backup is scratched or damaged in some way i tryed to back up my original of tombstone which is quite an old film the other day and the disc is a bit on the scratched side i got the same error message as above while trying to use recode on the disc so i tried the same disc with shrink now shrink gave an error message as well after giving it another couple of goes with shrink it got to the part of the film that was a problem and spent a goo3 or 4 mins trying to get past the damaged bit on the disc and eventually got passed it so i was able to back it up

I'm also getting this problem. I have just purchased Nero VisionExpress 3, and am trying to convert one of my own DVDs to MPEG4 format using Nero Record 2. So I inserted the DVD in the drive and did the following:

                              * Ran Nero Recode 2
                              * Selected "Recode DVDs and Videos to Nero Digital"
                              * Clicked "Import Files"
                              * Selected the two titles from the DVD (clicking "Add Title" each time) and then clicked "Close"
                              * Set the "Fit to target" dropdown to "DVD-5"
                              * Clicked "Next", and left the destination folder at "Hard Disk Folder", and the target folder at "C:\Documents and Settings\Paul\My Documents\Nero Recode"
                              * I click "Burn", and then it goes into the "Recoding and Burning" dialog, where it starts to compile the first title, but nothing happens for a few minutes, at which point it reports that it failed to compile the titles.

I've attached the log file that was generated when the message was reported - towards the end of the file, the following errors are reported:

The DVD is NOT copy protected and is a home-made compilation of home camcorder footage that was burned on my LG HDD-DVD recorder.
