    hmmm

If I understand you correctly... It is not a commercial DVD. It is one that was made for me of non-copyright controlled material that I have copied in the past with no problems. The dvd shrink forum is a mystery and I'll get on it now to see what it is about.

thanks a bundle for taking the time...any further help would be appreciated. (assuming it is beyond what I have already been advised).

had a few more tips and now one burn only...?

So...I have been getting a few tips here and there. And one led my nero to now burn one dvd (after I select 20). It burns one successfully and then crashes... log below. Fascinatingly baffling. Any more thoughts to help a wayward and stranded little soul?

      thanks for your tolerance.

Again...maybe I am misunderstanding what to do with that info. But the piece I am burning is approx. 4 minutes long. The source is direct off the original dvd.

Does that answer the implied question?

Thanks again for taking the time...

dvd shrink to harddrive test play works fine

Loaded dvd shrink. opened dvd and saved to desktop (it automatically tried to burn it and failed which I got a log of and included.) and played it back with no problem.

                thanks, k

(tried to include log but for some reason it puts over 500 smiley faces in it and does not allow over 50 images???)

                    on dell
this company is well known as a "No Support" company, and you will not get much help from them
                    relating to the firmware problem

it doesn't even like the 8x sony media, might have luck with some other 8x
                    media, but probably needs 4x

probably wasting time with that old laptop burner

                      final question and suggestion

What do you suggest for burning softwares?

What do you suggest for burners? Internal and External?

I was thinking everyone that comes here should at some point enter what burner they have and anyone who came here after that could search out their burner...such as mine...they would just be able to go to the end of the thread and hear the fateful and sad words: "waste of time"

...this may exist somehow but maybe if it were a little more suggested upfront...and that may be in existence too...which would simply point out my pignorance....(cue banjos...)

                      thanks for your attempts, k

Whenever I see such an old burner, I usually feel it's a waste of time from the start, but until we clean up the other problems you never know for sure.
Unfortunately obsolesence is just a matter of a few years(2-3) with these
beasts. If LG didn't scramble their firmware I could have read the codes and told right away if that media was supported. Running a recode log only makes it more complicated.

So...I beat on Dell even though their tests on my computer showed that my DVD burner should work, I kept pointing out..."it's not working."

They finally decided to send me a new burner however reluctantly and with much cajoling. I put it in and had some problems...then restarted the computer and it is magic! It works and it makes me smile.

To Dells credit. They sent it in 24 hours and they did send it for free.

They sent me: _NEC DVD+-RW ND-6650A

thanks for the help: cheers, K

that's a very well rated laptop burner, they probably learned their lesson

                            for future reference
