I'm new to this and having issues.

I recently downloaded anydvd, and got the latest version of Nero. I was able to successfully backup one dvd without a problem, but any movie that I have tried since then gives me an error when I get to the point of burning. It tells me the burn failed. Any ideas what I am doing wrong??

Could you post a Nero burn log? Click this thread to find out how.

As you are new to this here is a free alternative: RipIt4Me which uses Dvd Decrypter & FixVts to rip to your hard drive & then you can use Dvd Shrink to make it fit on a single layer disc, create an ISO to burn with ImgBurn. Any of these links will help you with this.

    Link.

    Link.

Does it keep a continuous log, or just the most recent, because I tried copying to my harddrive the last time and burning from there, and at that point it showed to be successful but wouldn't play...

hopefully this is what you need.

      Thank you...

Verbatim MCC 004 is good media but you should slow your burn speed to 8x

how exactly do I know what/how to shut down the extra programs. And actually the dvds I am using are Playo (not sure if they're made by verbatum)...could that be part of my problem?

Your media seems fine (MCC 004), just slow the burn down.

By closing programs BR means don't run anything you don't need, no multi-tasking.

If you are really skeptical about closing any running processes, post a screen of the task manager, I'm sure we can help.

(You need to update nero too)

thank you all for your help...I finally had a chance to put all the advice to work. I have FINALLY had several successful backups, although some movies I am still unable to copy...no idea why. Thank you!

process and back up to the hard drive, check the files for playability after each step

and then burn them slowly(4x to 8x)

that version of nero is buggy to say the least, learn how to do build mode with imgburn and try it as a crosscheck to see if the problem is nero or your burner

so copy it to the hard drive as opposed to directly to a disk? I will try that, because when I try to directly to a disk for certain movies it tells me I am missing some sort of file. It seems to be more complex dvds that give me a problem, like click, davinci code, the new bond movie...etc.

                    Thank you again!!

I will try that, because when I try to directly to a disk for certain movies it tells me I am missing some sort of file. It seems to be more complex dvds that give me a problem, like click, davinci code, the new bond movie...etc.

                      Thank you again!!
I would highly recommend you use RipIt4Me to do that. Then when RipIt4Me is done putting the movie on your Hard Drive then you can use Recode to compress it
