VirtualDub and DivX woes...

I have been experiencing very a erratic behavior from my VirtualDub 1.4.10 (including previous versions) and my DivX 5.0.2 codec.

Everytime I tried to convert any DAT file to divx avi (audio compression = mp3, video compresion = DivX 5.0.2 default settings), it will start the conversion process but once it reaches 9995 frames out of the total frames.... the conversion process just freezes while the elapsed timer continues to run. What could be the problem? .... I've already attached the crashinfo.txt file generated by VirtualDub after the crash.

Please help. I'm running a P3-800, 512MB SDRAM (2 x 256), and WinXP Professional .... thnx

Try processing the video alone. I have a feeling it's the audio processing that's killing the whole thing.

Thnx for the tip Enchanter, but I was just wondering whether my aforementioned problem is a common one faced by most people or is it an isolated case?

What is actually the cause of the problem? Is it VirtualDub's problem or the new DivX codec problem? ... At first I thought it was my PC's problem but when I tested it on another PC running WinXP Pro... I obtained similar results... FAILURE.

Any other remedies besides the one Enchanter gave me? Thnx

I've seen quite a number of cases, where the MP3 compression process killed the whole thing and your case looks similar. Try my first suggestion and see if you manage to encode everything to the last frame.

Okey, I just heeded your advice and ta-daa... successfully encoded the DAT file into DivX avi (without sound)... but is there a possible fix for the sound encoding problem? .... what's the cause of the problem if you don't mind me asking again?

It's simply that VD has problems with many videos that are only a little bit corrupted or non-standard. One soluiton is to open the video in TMPEGEnc and serve it with VFAPI so that you can open it in VD.
