    n00b Virtual Dub help needed........

    Im reading that to De-Interlace, or use any virtual dub filter, it's better to use the original video file. However, my video file is a vob file as its obviously from a DVD. Virtual Dub refuses to open VOB files, so im at a loss at what to do.

    Does this mean that infact i SHOULD encode to DivX FIRST, then open that in virtual dub?

    Im very very confused, all I wish to do is De-Interlace a movie.

    Thanks.

    Since VirtualDub will only accept .AVI or MPEG1 files for input, whatever your source of information (and I've never read that), is probably referring to having an Uncompressed .AVI file as a source.

    It's been my experience that if I load a DivX .AVI file into VirtualDub, select the desired filters and select the SAME DivX codec (and settings) as was used to initially compress it (rather than selecting "Recompress" or "Fast Recompress"), I don't discern any loss of quality in the new .AVI.

    Let us know of your success ;>}
