Virtual Dub audio convert problem

I am trying to edit "The Ring" movie in Virtual Dub. I edited the video and saved the avi file with no problems. Now when I try to convert the audio to a wav file, I get this error message. "The requested audio compression is not compatible with the input format. Check the sample rate and channel count of input match those of the requested format."

The file info on the audio is as follows:
sampling rate - 48000 Hz
channels - 5 stereo
sample precision - 0 bit
compression - unknown (tag 2000)
preload skew - 28000 samples (0.58s)
# of frames - 80757
min/ave/max/total frame size - 28/2335/28000/(184222k)

Note: Video is a XVID MPEG 4 Codec

Hi.
The sound there is AC3.
The 5 channels gives that away. I would use Besweet
here to trancode to mp3 or ogg or even wav.
It will also normalize the ac3 (2-pass).
Again, the best there is IMHO.
There are many, many other ways the convert this ac3

Some Solutions

Hi there.

First try to change your Xvid Codec.

Here in www.divx-digest.com you will find some.

Then try this software to uncompress the audio of the movie.

It will generate a new movie file with PCM audio.

Thanks for your help edge! I downloaded BeSweet but looks complicated and can't find a helpful guide. All I have is an AVI file of the movie. Vdub or Tmpeg won't let me seperate the audio. Don't I need a seperate audio file to use Besweet? Thanks for your continued help.

it doesnt really matter much if you want ogg, mp3 or another output format - the routine stays very much the same.
