NO Uninstall to WMP 9? Microsoft, you dirty dogs!

I got WMP 9 a while back, and I have not used it very much and so I want to uninstall it. It turns out that there is no uninstall program. I have to do it the old fashion way, find its directory and delete it, because I don't just not use it, I hate it (as of now)!!
there is 1 .dll file that refuses to delete, so I shift + delete and the other files go away for 5 seconds and come right back up. I am blaming this on Microsoft because I looked on google for "Uninstall Windows Media Player 9" and LOTS of articles come up saying that there is no way to uninstall WMP9 besides a system restore or a complete reinstallation of windows. I got WMP9 a long time ago, so I don't want to do a system resore before it was installed. I can't do a reinstallation of windows because I have a lot of stuff that I cannot replace, and on this computer I don't have a cd burner. Plus I don't have my xp cd right now.

taht is about uninstalling 6.1 and 7... I think that nine is on my "bad list" today.

lol start up in safe mode and get rid of it. That should work

would safe mode be able to delete undeletable .dll files? Safe mode makes it so you can boot up your computer if there is a driver problem, so it limits drivers to the minimum amount so you can find and target the bad driver... Unless I am mistaken.

Safe mode only starts up NEEDED processes. So if media player is running in regular it wouldn't be running in Safe because what are you going to need Media Player for if you are fixing a driver problem. Just go ahead and try it and I think it will work

Un-uninstallable WMP 9? I can forget about it. I find WMP 8 to be exceptionally intrusive and looks like its younger brother is no different.

I want WMP classic to be my default player, but when I change it, it thinks that the newer one is better. Ive tried setting it to bsplayer, zoomplayer, and powerdivx. They start up for about one time loading, but the next time it goes to wmp9!

Assuming the new player behaves like WMP 8, my suggestion to you is don't even load up the player.

From my experience, when WMP 8 is loaded up, it will automatically reclaim EVERY type of media it can play, which is just plain annying. I have since disabled Windows Media Player from my system and let BSPlayer be my default player.

also, realone player does not want to be NOT default player. Every 5 minutes, it will want to be default player.

WMP in XP?

hi, i'm a veeeeeeeeeeery newbie right here ... (this is my very first post!)

i wanna know, what's the default standard WMP in windows xp? not the sp1 though.

cause i used that for a long time and doesn't upgrade to anything ... i also thinks windows, miscrosoft wanna rule the world or something (through network) cause i was shock to see some hateable aplications such as msn explorer (what is it good for? i have no subscribe to msn network ... it looks like i HAVE TO subscribe) and windows msger (of course it's their right ... but i used yahoo msger and i already uninstalled icq for memory freeing purpose, so why bother adding another? but novice user will surely fall into the "trap" kidding ...) but i never thought that wmp will force us to use them always ...

btw, how about manually change the setting through file types option? i ussually change any annoying unevitable changes with it, it's located at windows explorer folder options. i think it will work, if it change back to ascociate any media type to use wmp again though i won't know ... but ... isn't it a FORCE action? doesn't it against the rule or something?

btw, can you explain about the word "intrusive"? sorry, i think my english isn't good enough ...

WMP9 is considered "intrusive" because it enters a system without user consent and there is no way of removing it.

BTW if you want a product from Microsoft that doesn't suck wait for the day they make vacuum cleaners
