How do I extract a WMA-file from AVI without decoding to WAV?

Am I right if I say that when you extract the audio from a AVI-file with VirtualDub and others, it is automaticly decoded to a WAVE-file?
I would like to know how you extract the audio WITHOUT decoding it to a wave file, but keeping the original, MP3-file, or in this case WMA-file.

Open it with virtual dub and use save wav option.Virtual dub does not convert your wma file to wav.Only it s extension seem wav.try to play it in win amp.It shows a wma file playing.
