Virtualdub dont encode AT ALL?

In virtualdub, i want to encode an asf to avi, Configured it as vcdhelp.com suggests and went to save avi, and the progress that i got was most disturbing. i took a screen grab of it and uploaded it to my site. Heres the address.

It shows that after half an hour, it managed to encode NOTHING. Is this right? seems a bit wierd to me. I know that my computer isn't the fastest in the world (Pentium 3 450 with 384MB of ram) but surely in 30 mins it could do some. any thoughts?

No, that shouldn't be the case, regardless of your system configuration.

Are you sure the .ASF is okay? Does it play properly?

When you load it into VDub (v.1.3C-ASF), you should initially see a notification that VDub is "converting the block header" (this may not be an exact quote).

yeah i get all that, but then nothing

The asf file plays fine, and i do get the message when i load the asf, but when i go to save the avi, i get nothing, its like hitting yourself with a mallett =)

Since VDubv.1.3ASF is not generating an error message, I'd speculate that you've somehow corrupted a part of the program. I suggest that you again download VDUB1.3C-ASF, delete the version you presently have installed on your system and install the fresh one.

where from though

it was very hard to find a copy of 1.3c where else would i get it from?

I done that, it said that asf is not supported by microsoft's request. so its impossible to convert an asf to mpg relatively fast (less than 22 days for a movies)

hmmm,

hey, thanks for your help, i found the problem, when i installed divx 4 it worked alot better. must have been my version of divx, i was using 3.11 alpha, but now i got divx4 and is fine, what i would like to ask you though is, whats the best audio compression to use. when i load virtual dub and select my asf, then change the audio to full processing mode and select compression, which is the best to use? at the end what i want to do is convert the asf to mpg, i was told it would be faster to go asf>avi then avi>mpg, but which audio settings would you recommend?
