How is that possible?

VBR mp3 86MB joinned on nandub to a 610MB divx 5 file the output file is 704MB instead of 696MB!!!!

Yes, muxing an mp3 into an avi file does incur some overhead. Especially when muxing an vbr mp3. You can't simply add up the size of the mp3 and the avi file.

GordianKnot's filesize calculator is pretty good at estimating how big the overhead is going to be.
