    very simple Q.

I am wondering what program to use to effectively remove 1000 frames of the beginning of an avi file, no big stuff.

Also what's the best program to normalize audio in a divx, most of the times the dynamics are really ruined, a bit of compression could do, are there tricks ??

    thx ..

Isn't it possible to cut the first 1000 frames and then save it under a different name? It seems to me I have to recompress it. Sounds a bit weird to me.
      Aint there another way?

That's exactly what Virtualdub does. Make sure you have the video set to Direct Stream Copy. Do you know how to use Virtualdub?

As for audio, I think what you want is dynamic compression, not the volume increase. Cooledit should be able to do the job for you.

          Ah now I'm getting somewhere.
I'm an audio engineer so I know how to make it louder, but not how to do it with DivX.

So I have to splitt the audio and then use external programs to make it louder and recompile it back with the video ?? Good.

No I don't know how it works and the find function doesn't work with me either.
The help file is really not helpfull or I'm looking in the wrong place.

I select the end point and start and I delete the frames. but then .. everytime I try to save it, it tells me the avi is going to be REALLY big without compression, so I figured

So direct stream copy is going to do that for me ? cool.
          I'll try.

Now I see it opens only the first 4900 frames of the file.
divFix tells me there is and error at frame 5100 or so.
Isn't VD able to read past it ??

Get DivFix to rebuild the index then. It will correct the error in such a way so that the corrupt frame is still there, but you won't get a freeze frame when you reach that frame during playback.

I did that twice. stripped the index and rebuild it etc.

There wasn't an obvious glitch in playback and definitely not that big that it stopped playing in gdivx or mediaplayer.
It's only virtual dub that's having a problem with it, it's not importing.

thx for your time by the way
