AC3 Streams (Director's Comments??)

In cases like that, I tend to fall back onto Flask0.6. It can parse IFO files and also sort out what audio streams are available for use. Use its Extract Audio to wav. feature. Its sound, while good, is not comparable to Graphedit. It's better than nothing though.

How did you rip the .VOB (software/settings used)?

Did you rip the full DVD, just the movie, or just specific .VOBs

If you've registered your MPEG2 video and audio filters with Windows, so that you are able to play MPEG2 files under Windows Media Player, try a simple experiment, as follows:

1) Change the file's .VOB extender to .MPG

2) Doubleclick on the filename - This should automatically start Windows Media Player with your .VOB/MPG file playing
Rightclick on the video image

3) Click on "Languages"

If you've properly ripped the complete .VOB, you should see multiple choices of .AC3 audio files (Note: This only seems to work with some [e.g. "A.I.", "Last Castle", "Princess Diaries",etc. and not all videos).

You can also do it without the .ifo file with Flask 0.6 as Enchanter mensioned above. Flask has an audio player built in, so you can play each track until you get the one you want.

It's just that Flasks .ifo parsing is a bit hit and miss with later DVD's.

There is no such "hit and miss" using the older, rock solid Flask v.0.594PX3 - with ANY DVDs...

I'll keep that in mind. It's only tha when I originally downloaded Flask 0.6 .ifo parsing was mensioned as a new feature to this version only, plus the thunder lib was only noted for 0.6 and not older versions.

I prefer DVD2AVI and Virtual Dub myself, so not really up on Flask versions.

Hmm, I'll try both those thanks.

I've recently been ripping the files (I use SmartRipper in MOVIE mode) without the IFO files and I guess I should stop doing that. The particular DVD I'm ripping here is Starship Troopers. I've got the settings set so it rips the entire movie into one VOB file (not the usual 4GB limit, I'm using NTFS and Win2k/XP). I'm used to just trying each AC3 stream until I get one that works.

Guess I'll have to update my FlaskMPEG to version .6 before I do anything.

I'll post my progress when I get a chance to try (is it going to work with FlaskMPEG if I don't have the IFO file?)

i'd recommend this routine:

- use smartripper with movie mode (make sure a LIST [*.lst] file will be created.

- use vob2audio and open the *.lst file

- vob2audio utilizes tsunamis streams.exe, which will tell you which audio stream has what language

- select your outputfilename and format and go for it

since vob2audio is absed on graphedit-filters it is the fastest and most precise way of extracting audio streams from vob to either wav, mp3 or ac3!

(of course vob2audio is part of my guide)

I tried using VOB2Audio. Because I don't have the IFO file it says "No IFO file found - No Verbose mode for stream selection" and it doesn't seem to do anything.

I've isolated the stream that's giving me the problems, and I've found 2 that will work fine... just trying to rip the damned things is the hard part. I'm trying FlaskMPEG right now, hopefully it's ripping the right stream. If not... I can't get the IFO file for this DVD so I don't know what I'll do.

Any more suggestions (aside from getting the IFO file)?

vob2audio should run without the ifo file, only the different languages should not be indicated.

you should have empty entries, the process itself normally works,
though!

Here's the exact error Vob2Audio comes up with:

Ligos Splitter seems to miss an audiostream!
Use the AudioVob-option in SmartRipper!
or use VobTools to delete first segment

Any ideas what I can do?

Are you selecting the 0.vob or the 1.vob (i.e. VTS_01_0.vob or VTS_01_1.vob)??

I don't use Vob2Audio myself so don't even know if you could pick the 0.vob if you tried. It's just that with Flask you can (if you ripped it that is) and it will cockup big time, as this is just a menu (or what ever) vob.

Umm, I ripped the movie so it ripped every vob file from that particular video into one large VOB file (which that would exclude the 0 vob because, if I'm not mistaken, that's the menu selection).

I'm not supprised you have no .ifo file then. I always rip the .vobs as is, which allows for .ifo parsing.
