    Unsolved Problem !!!

    Hi.
    Im encoding Divx for years.
In the past few monthes I've used xmpeg4.2&divx 4.1. sucessfully.
I bought a brand new laptop-> Compaq 714ea with xp on it.
When I start encoding, after a few minutes, the whole os is stuck.
I tried everything include format and changing encoder and os, for nothing.
Once, I saw an error messege says that the s3-savage-twister-vga adapter I have on the laptop is doing troubles.
    I updated everything.
Compaq support are amatures and know nothing so I wish your help, considering the fact I bought this laptop only for encoding and Im stuck with it.

    Thank you very much.

If you sincerely intend to use this laptop EXCLUSIVELY for encoding, I'd suggest that you install the older, more reliable, Win98SE and go from there. I am not aware of any particular benefit to encoding that is offered by Microsoft XP, which presently is essentially BETA software waiting for you to discover its flaws...

      I tried

      on win2000 already.
Which worked before on desktop pc.
It seems that the display adapter is doing the problem although it has 32MB and quite new.
I cannot sure this is the problem but I can sure u that it will return on other OS.
      I need a new Ideas...

I have heard of people having trouble with the PowerNow! Technology of the mobile Duron (and Athlon) CPU which your laptop uses.

Try turning off all power saving i.e. set it up like a desktop everything always on etc. Make sure your on AC

Plus don't set 100% CPU usage etc when encoding, use normal priority etc.

        Laptops are funny old beasts.

This is possibly a crock o %$&£, but worth a try.

        Sorry in advance setarip
