Using TMPGEnc for AVI to MPG2 conv. - output video "stutters"

Hi folks,

I am having a devil of a time trying to convert AVI files to MPG-2 using TMPGEnc Plus 2.5 (vers.2.56.39.143). The output files look and sound very good, but "stutter" slightly, especially when the camera pans. I've tried changing various advanced settings regarding framerate. I haven't tried 2-pass VBR since it would take forever. Why is the framerate messed up?

Is there another program I might have better luck with? I have tried several, they either don't work at all or have poor quality (low bitrates).

On tmpgenc's main settings screen, set Framerate to 23.976, and lower down, set Encode mode to 3:2 pulldown when playback.
This should stop the stuttering.

also IF you have direct show multimedia file reader set highest priority, enable "inverse telecine" with re-boots settings[except of "23.976fps", choose: "23.976fps(29.97fps internally)]. i always use this method, and it ALWAYS works for me.

The setting, "23.976fps(29.97fps internally)" enables 3:2 pulldown, so either way is fine
Inverse telecine would depend more on what the source is.
