Nandub

Hi al,

i've been reading a lot on these forums about nandub and how great it is. This convinced me to try it out, but the program always crashes after some time (this can be a couple of hours usually). The rare part is i've made a divx with nandub using gordian knot. Now i've also tried that again and nandub still crashes.

I have an athlon900 and run windowsXP.

This sounds like there's something not quite right with either your software or hardware installations. nandub has worked for me on WIn98SE, Win2K and WinXP, and without a glitch too.

A chipset driver upgrade would be the word to say.

By the way, it is not really recommended to change your chipset driver when you already have other drivers installed and your system up and running fully. Usually, the driver is installed when Windows is still bare (post-installation), with ABSOLUTELY NO other drivers installed yet. I blew up a Windows system once by doing this. The system was using an Intel815 chipset.

However, I have also 'updated' the VIA 4-in-1 drivers for another of my system, on a VIA Apollo chipset, and it worked like a charm.

The moral of the story: Don't reinstall your motherboard driver when you already have other drivers installed. However, you can sometimes get away with it (usually with VIA chipsets), but just be prepared for any possible problems.

i'm going to reinstall drivers now (i've made a ghost copy of my sytem) and i hope it works.

Another problem: i've got dual boot, an when trying to use nandub in win 98SE, i cannot open my dvd2avi files. Not in gordianknot nor in VFAPI? I always get an error saying that the file is not a valid dvd2avi file???

DVD2AVI files as in .d2v files? Try opening up DVD2AVI first.

I've installed the latest via 4in1 drivers, and re-encoded using nandub and it worked like a charm. Now i'm wondering: i encoded with priority settings 'normal' and i used to set them 'high'. So maybe this was the prob? I'll let you know.

About the win98SE, i'll try to check that one out again.

Looks like i have problems with my priority settings; my comp crashed again when running nandub on high priority.

I always have nandub running in idle mode, so that I can do my other works on this computer. Nandub will then make use of whatever CPU time is left for it to do the encodings.

Indeed the high priority is causing system instability here. Now i use normal mode and all seems to work, i will try idle also.
