    Can Divx 5 and TMPGenc 2.53 co-exist?

    Hi

I'm quite new to most of this and am currently working with DiVX 4.12 and TMPGenc 2.53 for my home projects.

I've been reading lots of posts about "uninstall DiVX 5" which seems to sort out most people's problems.

    2 questions

    1. Is anyone using DiVX 5 and TMPGenc 2.53 together and having no problems at all, since i am keen to use the best possible compression.

    2. If not does anyone know if the TMPGenc team are planning to update their software to embrace this new format.

    Thanks for any feedback

It's apparent from the multitude of posts on these forums that TMPGEnc is not (presently) able to handle files encoded with the recently released DivX v.5.0.

As to whether the author of TMPGEnc has any intention of modifying the program to cope with DivX 5.0, I'd suggest that you go to the website and "drop him a line" (tmpgenc.com or tmpgenc.net)

My own speculation is that DivX v.5.0 is a radical departure from the similarly NAMED ("DivX") codecs and, from the many posts I've read at these forums, is probably in reality, presently a BETA program (Taking the Microsoft approach of letting the consumers find the bugs, rather than fully testing the software before releasing it)...

As Setarip mentioned, divx 5.0 is quite different from the previous codecs. In my opinion, divx 3.11 alpha codec remains the best in terms of quality and compression.

TMPGEnc has recently launched a commerical application, it is my speculation, as such, that it would be in their interests to add divx 5.0 functionality. However, divx 5.0 is new, so it could take some time for this happen.

I agree with Setarip, the new codec starting with the divx 4.x betas have quite a few problems, which the developers have yet to address, most notably backwards compatibility.
