    virtualdub cannot open AVI (?!)

    for sure a noobie question :\
    after 'reinstalling' virtuadub, it's not opening AVI files anymore (it opens MPG successfully but not AVI) - it tells me I don't have the needed codec, one that's NOT the same used by WMP... does virtualdub use exclusive codecs? where to get such codecs if the case?
    (all formats are being played perfectly on BSPlayer, just not allowed to edit in virtualdub)
    thanks!

    Do you have the ffdshow filter installed? Get it here: http://ffdshow.sourceforge.net/tikiw...etting+ffdshow

          what's the error message?

          i'll assume its "cannot find vfw codec", as its the most common.

          go start-->program files-->ffdshow--->vfw codec configuration.

          click the 'decoder' tab, set divx, xvid, other mpeg4, all to "libavcodec"

          try opening in vdub.

              you're welcome!

              check out the guides at http://www.divx-digest.com or http://www.videohelp.com to add the subs through vdub, if you haven't already
