Problems with the playa and sound codec !

Hey I have trouble with the playa. The sound in my movies isn't that good ( full of crackling sounds), so I want to try other codecs and compare them to get the best sound possible. However, regardless of the amount of codec I install or desinstall or disable ( via the "Multimedia" menu in the config folder ), the Playa always use a "MPEG-1 LayIII Audio" codec for sound. Can anyone of you tell me how do either delete the darm codec ( so the playa will have to use another codec ) or to manualy select the codec I want to use with the playa ?

The player is NOT (nor can it select) selecting the audio codec - it is merely using the codec that the file was encoded with.
