view DivX after uninstalled DivX Codec

I installed DivX 4.12 codec and answered "Yes" to view DivX 3.11 movie. Then I'd like to install 3.11 so I uninstalled 4.12. However I have problem in installing 3.11 (failed to install). Anyway, without any codec, I can still play my 3.11 decoded movie (downloaded from internet). Why?

It is most probable that the 3.11 filters are still left within your Windows folder, enabling your media players to make use of them. Not an entirely bad thing anyway. It basically means that you actually have 3.11 installed in your system, just that it is not registered in Windows.

p.s. If someone can just give technical answers on this, it would be a good thing to hear.

Thanks Enchanter. Right now I installed 3.11 alpha. When I was installing, a msg showing the following file existed. I think it was the reason I would see 3.11 encoded movie. Thanks.

      c:\windows\system32\l3codeca.acm

          "c:\windows\system32\l3codeca.acm"

That file is part of the .MP3 audio codec...
