Divx and WinXP Pro problems - Help!

Hi! I have a 1000 MHz Duron with 256 MB ram and 40 GB HD which I use to create DIVx files. When I used to work on W2k pro everthing worked fine.
Then I've Instaled XP pro and nothing works fine: I've installed Divx 4.12 to capture VHS video and create AVI via VirtualDub. Then when I've installed Divx5, Virtualdub and the capture software don't recognize Divx 5 on system. Then I've uninstalled DivX5 and reinstalled DivX4.12 and now the same problem remains.

What should I do to solve that? I've tried to edit registry, delete files, and nothing worked. Any tips?

i got xp and it works fine. I think the problem occurs when upgrading. My opinion is not to upgarde but the to format the hard drive and do a fresh install. This is problem free. Good luck
