    Need DivX Help...BAD

I have been trying to convert several movies recently from DVD to DivX format without much luck. I have run into several different problems, and if someone would be so kind as to help me out with one or all of them, that would be great.

    My System:
800mhz PIII FCPGA on Intel MB
    384 MB 133mhz Micron SDRAM
    GeForce3 64MB DDR Video Card
    WinXP Professional

1.) I initially attempted to convert using DVDx 1.8a. I set the buffer to 80 MB so it would not tear apart my DVD drive (i didnt have the space to rip the whole DVD). I first tried Reservoir Dogs, and after a little fiddling got a sample. When I tried the whole movie, it had an error in the middle stating that there was no audio stream, and to continue would just fill it with zeros. I said ok, and it worked fine. When I checked out the final clip, audio was out of sync. Dceided I'd just try again and deleted it all.

2.) I then tried using Xmpeg 4.5 with the DVD plugin and was able to open the dvd and view frames, but when i selected the divx plugin and tried to convert it, it gave me an error saying "An Error occured when trying to generate the file. Check that youre not using the output file or the program is set up correctly." To my knowlege, it is set up just fine...

3.) I also encountered the same problem as 2 after i ripped the dvd to my hard drive using CladDVD XP 1.3, SmartRipper 2.41, and DVDDecrypter 3.0.0.17.

4.) Lastly I tried using DVDx once again for Trainspotting after ripping to the hard drive, and the movie went exactly as problem number 1, only this time i tried using VirtualDub to resync the audio (using the method described in the articles at Divx-digest). There were no differences in frame rate between audio and video so i tried to just guess. I knew the audio was ahead of the video so i adjusted the start offset over and over without any change. Then at a certain point (beyond 56 frames i believe) the video would be suddenly far ahead of the audio. At that point i gave up.

5.) Also, while encoding the Trainspotting DVD, DVDx said that the FPS was 29.9?? (whatever) and when i tried to set the DivX to the same FPS it would get an audio stream error (see my post to Stent77 http://forum.digital-digest.com/show...&threadid=7281 )

Hopefully someone out there is kind enough to bother to read all this and help me out. Thanks.

    Hi,

Are you converting mpeg2 files(DVD) to DivX avi file?

If so, then here's the best solution:

    1) Rip vob files to your hard drive using SmartRipper 2.40.

    2) Use DVD2AVI for frameserving - that is decoding your vobs and demuxing audio track(s).

    3) Use Gordian Knot to create avs files for VirtualDub encoding and Nandub for muxing audio. Gordian Knot supports DivX 4.12. and 3.xx only.

So, if you want to intend to use DivX 5.0, you can use my tool - autodivx5. But still you need Gordian Knot to create avs files.

      dito

BUT, I know it MUST work. Becaus I did it before.
The problem is, I can't remember the last combination of DivX and Xmpeg 4.x known good.

Xmpeg is fine, but the must be a bug in recent versions. I'm still trying to fix it.

Hope I can tell you more in the near future.

      regards

        Xmpeg output file Problem solved

        Bingo !!
Forums and FAQ's are a great thing

I have DivX502 and Xmpeg4.3 (should be ok with 4.5 too).
        Radium mp3 codec
        Win XP

Inspired by a posting of Harold_Smith8 & Angie (tnx!) I did the following action.

        in win xp go to

        control panel>sounds>hardware
audio codecs > properties > properties

there I found twice Fraunhofer IIS MPEG-Layer3 codec
one of them is the ripped Radium codec (professional) you should keep. The other is called advanced and can be disabled (you don't have to remove it)

It's almost the same procedure in Win2k

        now it works fine

        have fun!

I also had the message :

"An Error occured when trying to generate the file. Check that you are not using the output file or the program is set up correctly." with Xmpeg4.2a and Divx4.11 or Divx4.12 (Win98SE + K6-2 500)"

Since Divx 5.0, 5.01 or 5.02 this message dissappears and all (or almost) runs perfectly.
Except the damned IDCT Test at Xmpeg 4.3x or 4.5 starting . To avoid crash at this level, suppress all the xx.idct.Xmpeg plugins you d'not need for your CPU.

I also experienced as Agrobak do it that you must disable the audio codecs you do not need for accessing your favorite in Xmpeg 4.5 (Win98SE). For instance disable all the Fraunhofer MP3 codec for accessing LameACM in Xmpeg.

Xmpeg4.5 AND Divx5.02 = very good results and stability and how much easier than other ways to convert DVD.

          Good Luck
