i read somewhere that vobs are the same as mpgs. all you have to do is change the ext. from vob to mpg. because i ripped a dvd to my drive and want to burn the vobs to my dvd burner.i tryed all the stuff vobs to avi than to mpeg. and get out sync of audio. so i though there must be an easy way to get the vobs on dvd again. so i tryed this and got great video but no sound! you see the software i use to burn the dvd is dvdit and must have an ext of mpg to do it.so can anyone help me get sound? thanks much.............

It's not exactly the same. Normally MPG-files contain only one video-stream (MPEG-1 or MPEG-2) and one audio-stream (MP1 or MP2). VOBs can contain one or more video-streams, several audiostreams, subtitles, menues and more. VOBs can be played in DVD-player-software or some windows-players like WMP. It dosen't really matter if the extension is vob or mpg. The biggest problem is the multiple audiostreams because most simple players cant't decide which they should play and so they choose a random one. In that case the first vob may play with englisch language while the second vob will play with an other language.
There are some rippers that will seperate the video- and audio-streams. Then you can join them to a "normal" MPEG-file.don't trust in guides -
I have a number of files that started out as clips from a DVD VOB, produced using the trim feature of DVDToolbox. I then ran IFOedit to create an IFO. I probably shouldn't have done this, as it changed the VOB somehow. I then changed the extension to .mp2 so that I could edit in ULEAD Video Studio, combine with other clips, etc. However, now the clip has no audio. If I play through PowerDVD, the audio is there. If I change extension to .vob, and play through PowerDVD, the audio is there. If I burn to DVD and play on standalone, no audio. In ULEAD VS, no audio. Can someone please help me understand what's going on with the audio streams here? THANKS.Comment
