Virtual -and Nan-Dub video open file error

I recently reinstalled Win98SE -again- and everything was alright; I divxed Dune CD1 with no problems. Then, when I tried to do the CD2, I received the following error:

"couldn't locate decompressor for format DX50 (unknown)

VirtualDub <or Nandub> requires video for Windows (VFW) compatible codes to decompress video. Directshow codes, such as used by Windows Media Player are not compatible."

I have also noticed media player 6.4 (preferred viewing software) does not playback properly; there are significant bright coloured macroblocks and artifacts.

Any ideas and thanks for any advice.

nb. Had reinstalled so much software that I don't know which could have caused the issue.

Have you installed DivX 5.x codec? The error you are getting from VD indicates you have not.

Yes. I have installed the Divx 5.0.2 pro bundle with the gain trickler unchecked in msconfig.
Maybe it has become corrupted somehow. I will uninstall and reinstall. Will let you know. Thanks.
