    Older mediaplayer in Windows XP

The mediaplayer in Windows XP (Mediaplayer 8.0) can't play all the DivX movies. And I do know it's possible to play all DivX movies with some older versions of mediaplayer. So my question is: Can I safely remove the mediaplayer of XP and replace it with an older version?

I wouldn't say it's safe. I don't think Microsoft knows how to make "safe" software. But it's definitley possible. I wouldn't like to try it myself mind. I think there's another thread concerning it somewhere on the DivX board.

I have WinXP Pro and use both WMP 8.0 and WMP 6.4. Do a search on mplayer and you'll find the old 6.4 version.... It's there, somewhere.
