HC16 slower than HC15?

well how does HC Encoder do with long movies like Pearl Harbor, Scarface, Lord Of The Rings, 2 to 3 hours?

i cannot tell because i used different encoders for those titles when i made a backup of them

i should think hc will do as good a job as cce

maybe using matrices like *very low bitrate* or *smooth* might be a good idea

scarface might even benefit from slight filtering with fluxsmooth

having run 4 dvds with 016 test release 2 since yesterday i can only say:




all 4 went fine, no hanging, no nothing

seems like this problem is solved!

i have asked him, if the latest release could be made available for testing purposes here

we'll see what he thinks - maybe he is even about to make that version publically available himself any time soon

wanted to give some feedback after the problems that i had experienced

i guess we could consider it fixed, because with the previous public release the problem occured with every disc i tried (sometimes sooner sometimes later)

i got this version yesterday, used 4 different titles so far and they all worked flawlessly

Most issues are solved now:
- hangs while running minimized
- wrong GOP size for some fixed GOPs
- artifacts at the right side of some frames

The artifacts were caused because motion vectors could point out of the frame by half a pixel, some decoders don't like that...

Still one issue left, using Avisynth DirectShowSource with the WMV decoder sometimes won't read the stream correct during the second pass, it can skip frames or even jump back.

one question. i'm always afraid to change what is working so well for me(HC15), let's say that 16 has not issues, should i still change and why? i underestant that the speed between the two is not that much different.

HC016 should be a bit better regarding quality.
Also it runs more stable using Avisynth scripts.
And AFAIK 016 is now DVD-compliant, some HW-players (Pioneer) don't like the output of HC015.
