How do I get the best picture quality with DVD shrink? I think the pictures I'm getting are a bit grainy, and I don't know why.

in most cases your sources will be to blame for being grainy/noisy
shrink cannot change this
more sophisticated tools like dvd rebuilder, however, can:

the freeware edition has the same ability to use filters as the pro version
so YES, the freeware version together with a freeware encoder like HC ENC should be able to solve your problem if your source is grainy
you could open a single vob file into virtualdubMOD and use *=> video => save source to png* if you like to attach a screenshot of some dark scene if you like telling us which title you're dealing withComment

Is there a step by step on using it? I tried the steps from the link, but it didn't work - by step 2, it said "unspecified path" or something like that....Maybe I need something else installed?Comment

I have worked with grainy sources before and technically, HC Encoder is not doing the fixing but AVISynth's filters, which I had inputted in DVD Rebuilder's option.
otherwise i would not have linked to the *rb + filtering* thread
i mentioned hc as it it freeware just as the rebuilder version that was already mentioned

My install is not like the guide. First off, I find only ver. .96 - which I trust is ok. But install wise, the unzip takes a milisecond, and then you click on a yellow DVD-RB icon and the program starts - no real install. HC Encoder is not part of this ver., btw. I was able to find HC Encoder seperatedly - but don't know how to combine the two....Last edited by loopyloops; 28 Nov 2005, 01:42 AM.Comment
