using other matrices

im experimenting with RME and ive imported some matrices. but how do you use these matrices with DVD-RB?

or in particular, i want to use AutoQ2 with DVD-RB.

do you just set RME in the preview/test section, then click "update DVD-Rebuilder" to apply the settings to DVD-RB?

edit: ok, i think i have the right idea here. another question, though... if i set DVD-RB to use AutoQ2 in RME, will DVD-RB use AutoQ2 in my next project, or will it reset itself?

When you clikc update rebuilder, it updates the various info files with your chosen matrix. Try it! Have a look at the various segments in Rebuilder.INF - they should show your different matrices.

A prepare resets to the options your have preselected (e.g Encoder Default matrix). You'll need RME again.

are there any matrices you guys would recommend for low-mid bitrate encodes? ive heard very low bitrate, autoq2 and QLB (quenc low bitrate) are good.

also, do matrices help remove noise/blocking at all? the particular movie im doing has some noisy scenes, and some of them have blocking in my CCE outputs. so far, ive tried undot(), undot().deen(), and fluxsmooth(5,7). deen and fluxsmooth did help, but it smoothened the picture noticeably. just wondering if theres anything else i can try.

You can use the matrices supplied in RME or in HC_018. RME gives clues as to what BRs each matrix is for (e.g Medium-Low, which refers to the BR of the intra/Inter parts of the matrix).

If you're low on BR, try encoding in 1/2D1 and have a look at the results.

I am using QLB as we speak with HIGH/LOW/TYPICAL Bitrates: 3,192/400/2,357 Kbs I will post some comparison shots shortly

Here it is I used QUENC and no filters I didn't like it so there is no need for the original I just used QLB

hmm, i myself found QLB (used with CCE, not QuEnc) to be pretty good.

i just tried AutoQ2, and im liking this one. its recommend bitrate range is between 1500-3500, which is the range ill probably do most of my projects. if i need less than 20-25% compression, ill probably use shrink instead.

edit: im not just likin this matrix, im lovin it! removed quite a bit of macroblocking and noise and its VERY close to the source.
