Have just upgraded to Pro and have not seen a speed increase, more features, still a newbie, will take time. I hope that getting an encoder program like CCE Basic will speed things up. Thing is I don't have a credit card and have only found links that need it. Are there any links that use PayPal?

I am using an AMD Sempron 2800, 1Gb ram, 60Gb HD, 128Mb graphics card and a 300Gb external HD. My thoughts are to getting CCE software, is the cost going to be worth the wait since I have to send a money order. I have no credit card, and the site does not accept PayPal.Comment

I am not sure how fast CCE is because I never used it.I felt HC and AutoQMatENC were just as good as CCE based on the test results I seen posted from others.If your worried about time then just let it run while your sleeping,if you have more then one movie to do then use batch modeComment

search the rebuilder forum for a couple of "comparisons" (hc + cce among others) and you may find that hc is a marvellous piece of software especially since it is total freeware
rather than buying cce trial maybe think of spending the money on a faster cpu!?

With HC I always use 2-pass and set it to best and with AutoQMatENC I set it to 3-Pass with qmatop enabaledComment

BR7, in your opinion ,is there a significant diff. in quality using 2-pass as opposed to OPV and quality best ( slowest)? what about encode time? I read somewhere that anything over 2-pass just a waste of time! At this moment I'm running my Lord of War backup (on another PC) with HC encode ,One pass VBR clicked, and noticed it is encoding at a faster pace. However quality is my main concern !!!!sigpic

For low bit rate stuff IMO it is better to do two pass with HC if you got a movie that is high bit rate I would say you can get a way with one pass or even use DVD Shrink for that matter.I can't really tell you what looks good you would have to judge that for your self all you have to do is set DVDRB do the same part of the movie about 10-15 minutes should do, one with one pass the other with two pass and see which you like best.IMHO if your going to do one pass you may as well use shrink I am sure others may disagree but that's the way I look at it

With what you got posted above I would have used two pass

i think you better use 2 pass - i only used 1 pass because i wanted to test the effect of idct's on the encoding speed and running an entire movie a dozen times takes a lot of time so i went for the shortest possible solutions

Yep. CQ = Constant Quantization. It means that every picture will be encoded with the same quantization level -- making them all the same (approximate) quality. In CQ bitrate varies dramatically -- but keeps quality consistent.
The loss in overall quality you get from CQ is in the fact that the output size is approximated based upon some sampling during PREPARE -- while with 2 pass you get a very accurate output size (utilizing all the bits).Comment
