The developer Hank315 has today released a significant update to the famous HC Encoder. HC is a very high quality freeware MPEG-2 encoder that can challenge any commercial alternative in terms of speed and quality. Use it with DVD ReBuilder to make amazing quality DVD backups! The new version comes with support for HD resolutions up to 1920x1152, updated GUI, speed improvements for SSE2 compatible processors and a few other improvements.

As i said, not a in depth analysis, but the quality didn't appear to be less than the previous HC version.
No doubt people will test it with "sterner" examples, but all the same, Hank is to be congratulated if he had managed to maintain the quality with a significant improvement in speed.Comment

HC020 supports the latest dgmpgdec149b14 release (fileversion 16).
Also the older fileversion 15 is supported.
About speed, an example:
Matrix3, PAL, movie only, normal profile, CPU Intel E660:
encoding time 31 min using DVD-RB PRO (multiple instances).Comment

I did a small test On the first pass I'd avg 35 fps on the 2nd pass I'd avg 44 fps
Processed 18,910 frames.

- Space for Video : 2,468,120KB

I've been waiting for this release for a while now. So glad it is out. I had already started an encode last night but I'll make sure to re-do it with the new version.
