All else being equal, would a system with,say, a quad core intel CPU and with NCQ, encode using 4 instances of HC faster than without NCQ? If so, how much faster?

Very interesting: yes, I remember seeing that article when it first came out.
I suppose, since encoding is CPU intensive, there would be little gain using NCQ.
What I don't have the smarts to understand is the last graph:

I can only say that 2 processors is a lot faster than 1 -- and 4 will likely be a lot faster than 2. Never tested NCQ -- but in MPEG encoding the real work is done at the processor level -- although I see significant improvement when I use a newer larger cache drive than an older one with small cache.Last edited by jdobbs; 24 Jun 2007, 06:38 AM.Comment
