    Sorry LT...

Got an error: [ TMPGEnc: File "C\folder\file.avi" cannot be open or unsupported ]

I increased the priority for [ VFAPI Plug-in ] to 2 like the post instructed!

I ran the software Avicodec to display the parameters and this is what I got:

    File : 431 MB (431 MB), duration: 1:11:17, type: AVI, 1 audio stream(s), quality: 53 %
    Video : 403 MB, 790 Kbps, 29.970 fps, 720*480 (4:3), DX50 = DivXNetworks Divx v5, Supported
    Audio : 28 MB, 56 Kbps, 24000 Hz, 2 channels, 0x55 = MPEG Layer-3, Supported

This has been the same for all my other ones!

then it's a codec issue. that type of file should be no problem with TMPGEnc. leave the directshow raised. what do you have for codecs on your system?

yeah a lot of stuff. you see, codecs can conflict with one another creating problems. it happens all the time here. which divx do you have? i'd uninstall it from add/remove programs, delete the folder in c:/program files. and install this one
Free-CODECS.COM, or just CODECS.COM - Download the latest codecs and tools, for free - daily updated!

          Codec Tweak Tool
don't know what this is. you may have to wipe them all out and start from scratch.

Sorry about winavi (frequent spammer of this forum) being a spammer... I didn't know....their software isn't worth a damn anyway...
lol, that's the handywork of good ol admin, if you need just put a space between a letter. and yes that software is crap.

K-Lite... crap! Learn something new every day! I'm wondering how much crap I have on my machine!!! Downloaded the div-x like you instructed...
I opened TMPGEnc and went to VFAPI Plug-in tab, the "DirectShow Multimedia File Reader" had changed from my current settings, so I went ahead and re-set the priority back to 2.

Ok LT... I'm ready to get started... Div-X is installed and all the other crap is gone... Waiting on your set-up instructions for
                multi-media.

use the method in the guide, see if you get that error.

I loaded the file and no errors. I was wondering if there are any particular
advanced settings you would me do before I get started. You said guide...
what guide are you referring to?

this one is a good place to start.

how much space on a dvd do you want this file to take? this is important.

                        question important?

well do you want this one 1:11 min file to fill an entire dvd in the end?

No I don't want a file that small to fit a whole dvd!
What I want to do is to process multiple files so that will fit a whole dvd.

Right now I'm evaluating TMPGEnc Plus 2.5 [Version 2.524.63.181 ;Core version 2.04.169] and I am interested in making the purchase. In your opinion... is this the proper version of TMPGEnc that I need to accomplish my
                            tasks?

                              yes, absolutely.

before you begin encoding you need to decide what will go on the dvd and what type of quality you want. if i had two of those 1:11 files i'd put them each to make 48-49% of the dvd. anything more is serious quality loss. you can however use a high bitrate and use dvd shrink in the end. what else will go on this disc?

Not sure LT... I guess I'll have to take a look at the results of the file then
determine what ones will go on after I have a look at their sizes. I'm hoping I'm calculating this right...

So, you agree with my purchasing this version of the software? That's one thing I'm not ashamed to do and that's to ask a pro.
