when i make a dvd of a film i recorded from the tv all ok but a 2 hour film takes 2 hours to do .
is there any way to make tmpenc dvd authoring go quicker

Only if you are ready to compromise the quality,maybe.Lowering the bitrate may produce faster encoding.

What version of TMPG DVD Author are you using? That's very unusual. I liked TMPG initially, because with the earlier versions it didn't take long to create a dvd. The new version 3 with Dixv, can take nearly that long when the source file is an AVI or Divx/Xvid. But when the source file is dvd video from a burned disc (-R or -RW), or video from a RAM disc or Media Center DVR file, it can take as little as 45 mins.
