Help for menus for divx dvd

    Hi,

I tried to create a divx dvd which can be played in a standalone dvd player. I used Tmpgenc 3 with divx authoring. The file which i tried to convert is of size 700mb. When i encoded to dvd the size of the file is 1.7GB.

So what i want to do is convert the file to dvd with size reduced and also with menus. Please help me.

One thing i also tried is I just burned the dvd as data dvd by adding the divx files directly. It played well on a standalone dvd player.

Converting the DivX to DVD will always increase the file size, because DVD uses the less efficient MPEG-2 codec (DivX uses MPEG-4). Converting to DVD will give you menus though.

Does you standalone DVD player support AVI/DivX file playback?

If your answer is "yes" (I assume so because you said the DivX file played back directly), then by burning the DivX files directly to disc, you are using the player's DivX playback capability to directly play the files, which will be the fastest and best way to playback the DivX file, but you won't have menus.

If "no", then your only option is to convert the file to DVD using TMPGEnc or another software. Check out our DVD authoring tools roundup for more information and links:

Does your standalone also support DivX menu playback (DivX Ultra certified)?

If "yes", then TMPGEnc allows you to make a DivX-ultra certified DivX file with menus, which your player will support. This guide will show you how:

This guide shows you how to make a DivX-Ultra certified DivX file with advanced DVD features like menus and multiple audio/subtitles

If "no", then if you still want menus, converting to DVD is your only option. Most standalone DVD players are not DivX-Ultra certified, and hence, won't playback DivX files with menus.

      Ok I got it.

I would like to ask u that is there any other way so that i create menus with some application and add to the dvd so that when i play it in a standalone player it displays the menu and allows me to choose which track to play.

TMPGEnc DVD Author 3 allows you to add menus to existing DVD video compilations without having to re-encode the video to DVD standard. Otherwise, check out the tools I've listed in the roundup and the pros/cons for each:
