    Problem cutting SVCD using TMPGENc

I have recently downloaded the latest version of TMPGENc have converted DVD to SVCD using the standard SVCD(PAL) template. When I come to cut and join (within MPEG Tools..) I load up the mpg and go to the Edit screen but then it does not let me do anything (play, move the scrolling pointer, enter time parameters) and just hangs. It eventually returns with the message that the program is not responding. Ive tried a different SVCD(PAL) template with no luck. Ive done countless VCDs with no trouble and I tried it again wth a VCD mpeg and it edits fine. Im using Windows 2000 Professional.
Has anybody experienced/resolved this kind of problem before?

    Many thanks.

      Thanks for your reply Sorcerer.
I just downloaded the TMPGENc yesterday so I should have 29 out of the 30 day trial left. I liked the way the TMPGENc cut and join worked because I could choose visually at what point I wanted to cut the mpeg. Im a newbie to bbmpeg but that seems to cut on file size only.
I will try the other ones you suggested.
      Many thanks for your reply.

I know that everybody doesn't agree with me but I think it's better to cut the divx with virtualdub before encoding with TMPGEnc rather than cutting with this soft.
This is a wonderfull soft but I think it doesn't cut very well.

You can also trying DVDx for encoding MPEG 2 vob files in 2 ou 3 MPEG 2 files if you want making VCD or SVCD

(Excuse me I doesn't speak English and I don't know if you understand me)

noooo! dvdx is a total no0b programm!
it has got bad qual. and it is slow too!

use dvd2svcd thats ok for ripping...
it is slow too but... the qual. is real good, you can encode multi audiostreams, 2nd-pass.........

Yes, Dvdx is not a very nice encoder but you can use TMPGEnc through DVDx with avi proxy.

I had the same problem of freezing with TMPGEnc over and over so I gave up cutting with it. I now use Womble MPEG Editor which is really easy and I've never had any problems with it. Send me an email if you want a copy of it.

I know TMPGEnc is supposed to give great quality but I personally found it tempermental and too slow. I've moved to encoding through FlaskMPEG using the LSX Encoder which is encoding on my machine at about 14-15 fps, meaning most movies, apart from really long ones, take about four hours. The encoding quality in my view is excellent and my kids seem to love it.
