    Encode AVI to VCD with better quality

    I have this avi & mpeg files (AVI to VCD/DAT) and I have burned it into CD with Nero but the quality was a little bad.

    Can anyone tell me what software can I use rather than Nero with better quality?

    Should I encode avi to vcd or mpeg to vcd?

    Please help.

    You should be doing SVCD or DVD, not VCD.
    Bitrate=quality.
    VCD is only 1150kbps.
    SVCD is average 2500kbps.
    DVD is average 6000kbps.

    Encode the avi to svcd and put it on 2 disks instead of one.

      Garbage in garbage out. You can't make the encode any better than the original. If the original looks ok load it in Avicodec (free) and check the resolution. Make your encode as close to the original resolution as possible maintaining a compliant dvd resolution ie 352x240, 352x480, or 720x480. Keep in mind what "reboot" stated about bitrate. If the original resolution is low but the video quality is ok I prefer 1/2 D1 (352x480) as this allows you to choose the bitrate you want and maintain a compliant dvd. I usually use 1000k min, 3000k average and 4000k max.
