If you have no intrest in watching the VCD/SVCD while it's on the computer you could make an image. And the only purpose is to make an exact copy to burn or share.
    Nero will do for ya!

You can use TMPGEnc to convert the video files to "plain vanilla" MPEG-1 (from VCD) and MPEG-2 (from SVCD) and then save them to your hard drive for direct playing...

setarip: How fast does TMPGEnc do that? Isn't that very slow when it has to convert again, like 10hours?

          1) Regarding VCDs, the "AVSEQ01.DAT" files don't even have to be altered. If you "drag and drop" such a file onto an already opened Windows Media Player, it will automatically start playing

          2) Regarding SVCDs, it takes less than 15 minutes (on one of my older 800MHz machines) to convert a 45 minute SVCD ("AVSEQ01.MPG") to "plain vanilla" MPEG-2, using TMPGEnc as follows:

File>>MPEGTools>>Merge&Cut (Set to "MPEG-2 Program [VBR])

          Working...
