if divx 3.11 codec is only compatable with windows 1998 & 2000 and i am running xp how do i download it then and also does it matter where i load the codecs on my computer right now i have them loaded in my program file and i just downloaded red dragon in mpeg format how do i convert it to vcd format so i can burn it

The divx 5.02 codec is "backwards" compatible. You should not need to install divx 3.11 alpha. FFDSHOW, also provides playback capablities for XVID and DIVX.
