    Saving .wav in VirtualDub

    I'm trying to convert an avi file into mpg-1 in TMPGenc, but i hear no sound, so im trying to save the .wav file in VDub, but i get this error every time i try: ( my screenshot doesnt want to post for some reason) as soon as it starts saving the wav, theres an error, it says: "AVIoutputWAV: The Handle Is Invalid"
    Any help?

    1) Load the file into VirtualDub

    2) From the "File" dropdown menu, select "File Information"

    3) Post (here) EVERYTHING you see (both video and audio information) - Since you've indicated that you can't post a screen capture, type ALL of the info...

      Setarip, this might be a dumb question, and it's not that i dont want to post a screenshot, its that im not too sure how... See, whenever i capture a screenshot, it ends up being over 300kbs, and i can only post about 110kbs...

          The audiostream APPEARS to be in Variable Bit Rate (VBR) .MP3 format. In light of the difficulty you're experiencing, I'd suggest taht you try using an audio editor such as GoldWave (or CoolEdit or similar) to attempt to extract and convert the audiostream. If you use GoldWave, simply "drag and drop" the .AVI file onto the already open GoldWave program - and it will automatically extract the audiostream from the .AVI.

          Let us know of your success ;>}

            Thanks for the suggestion of using another program, i indeed did use another program (Avi2Wav) and it extracted the sound fine. I couldnt find Goldwave though, is it available on digital-digest.com?
            Anyway, the whole extracting thing in VDub seems wierd to me, since i already had anther avi file in VBR format (someone told me it was in that format) and it extracted fine in VDub, but this one doesnt... Can you tell me what to look for in the "file information" dialog box so that i know whether to save the wav first (using whatever program works or convert straight away to mpg if it ISNT in VBR mp3 format.

              GoldWave is avvailable at:

              GoldWave audio editing, recording, and conversions software. VideoMeld multitrack audio and video editing software.

              The "giveaway" that the .MP3 audiostream is VBR is that it is quite nearly twice the number of frames as that of the videostream...

              If the audiostream is NOT .MP3 (CBR or VBR) and NOT Uncompressed PCM (.WAV), the audio information in the VDub File Information box will either state the audio format or refer to "Unknown (Tag xxxx)", in which case can go to either:

              OR

                  Under the "Video" section, look at "# of frames". Under the "Audio" section, "# of frames".

                        Dammit!

                        Well, seems like I've encountered (another) problem: I was converting my DivX movie into mpeg-2 at night, and today when i came this morning to check on it, with 2 hours out of 8 left, an error occured.

                        Has this ever happened to anyone before or have you ever encountered it. (The only options i changed in the "MPEG settings were instead of video arrange method: "full screen", i changed it to "full screen keep aspect ratio")

                          This is the main TMPGenc screen with the settings at the bottom.

                            Based on the dearth of responses, I guess the answer is "No". ;>}

                            But seriously, I'd suggest that you try experimenting, by selecting as your starting point in "Source Range", the approximate point at which the error occurred. If you can isolate the specific problematic frame(s), it may be a simple matter to delete them...

                              Ill try your suggestion On another note, just to clarify, the movie i want to convert is running at 23.976 frames/second. That makes it NTSC Film. So then i choose the NTSC Film option in TMPGenc. Correct? But what if i have 25 frame/second movie, that means i have to convert it to PAL s/vcd? However, im in the NTSC region, wont my dvd player NOT be able to play PAL videos? Would it be possible to go ahead and convert the 25frame/s movie to NTSC anyway?
