    Ac3 and Tmpgenc

I have alot of divx movies that i want to encode to vcd's using tmpgenc. I followed the instructions of several online guides, and the results where fine.

Now i only have 1 problem, all the divx with mp3 sound where ok, but the problem is with the ones with ac3 sound. After i extract the audio from the divx file using virtualdub i change the extension to .mp3, but the file isn't accepted by tmpgenc. Am i doing something wrong?.

    Thanks, Robert

**IMPORTANT - VirtualDub v.1.4AC3 is a specific MODIFIED version of VirtualDub!

Load the .AVI file into VirtualDub v1.4C-AC3, set "Video" to "Direct Stream Copying" and select (under "File") "Save WAV" - and save as .AC3 (IMPERATIVE to save as .AC3!).

Despite the fact that .AC3 file extracted using VDub-AC3 doesn't play properly, PX3AC3Converter (or BeSweet) will do a perfect job of converting it to .WAV format.

Open TMPGEnc and FIRST load the .AVI file. THEN load the .WAV file. You should then be able to proceed as normal for your conversion.

    Let us know of your success ;>}

here is how i do it and it works every time,
open in VDUB set "Video" to "Direct Stream Copying" and select (under "File") "Save WAV". then change the file ext. from .wav
to .ac3, then use HeadAChe program pick your ac3 file as source
and click start, the .wav file you end up with works great with
          TMPGEnc.

Supposedly, the latest version of TMPGEnc is capable of accepting AC3 audio streams.

              Update re: batman's info

Yes, I've recently determined that in ANY version of TMPGEnc (even as far back as v.1.2c), if under the "Environmental Settings" "VFAPI plugin" tab you increase the "Direct Show Multimedia Reader" to the highest priority, it WILL accept a properly encoded .AVI with .AC3 audio for input...

Thanks for the detailed information Setarip, this would undoubtably simplify the vcd/svcd conversion process

Does that mean that i can just select the ac3 audio file extracted by virtualdub as the audio source?.

                    Thanks, Robert

It means that you don't have to extract the audio at all...

Thanks, i almost want to encode all my divx movies with ac3 sound, so i don't have to extract the audio first when converting from divx to mpg.

If you encode them with CBR (Constant Bitrate) .MP3 audio, there's also no need to extract and convert the audiostream...
